Genetic Stocks
Genetic stocks are focused on one or a limited number of defined variations.
This can include:
- an allele of a specific gene.
- a combination of mutations that give a unique phenotype.
- a series of mutant alleles of genetically linked genes.
- a variant cytoplasmic trait.
- a chromosomal aberration (e.g., translocation or inversion).
- an aneuploid, or
- a tetraploid.
The background of the stock is usually only important when it affects the expression of a mutant phenotype. Our collection is comprised of maize genetic stocks. Our collection does not include maize inbred lines nor other Zea germplasm.
